Mday 4 – ACL Group B Wrap

23 April 2009 No Comment

Al Shabab have nearly qualified for round 2 but the race for 2nd spot is still open.

Persepolis went into the game with Al Gharafa four points clear at the halfway stage, and a win would have sent the Reds into the next round. Instead, they were thrashed 5-1.

Brazilian striker Araujo scored a marvelous hat-trick. His compatriot Fernandao got the ball rolling, however, with a spectacular overhead kick in the eighth minute.

Two goals from Araujo just before the break effectively ended the game. He got another in the second half and Iraqi star Nashat Akram also got in on the act.

Al Shabab thrashed the weakest team in the group Sharjah 5-0 to move within touching distance of the second round.

Nassir Al Shamrani got a hat-trick and Abdulaziz Saran bagged a brace to put Shabab three points clear and leave the UAE team still on zero points.
