Mday 4 – ACL Group G Wrap

23 April 2009 No Comment

Suwon Samsung Bluewings came from behind at home to Shanghai Shenhua to win 2-1 and move three points above their Chinese rivals.

It started badly for the Koreans as Yanko Valkanov headed the visitors ahead after just 12 minutes.

The hosts hit back with two goals just before half-time. Both goals were easy on the eye. Lee Sang-ho fired home the equalizer after 41 minutes and three minutes later, Bae Ki-jong put Suwon ahead.

There was still drama to come. Shanghai’s Hernan Barcos missed a late penalty and Suwon’s Chinese defender, and former Shanghai star, Li Weifeng was sent off.

Kashima Antlers weren’t expected to slip up at home to group whipping boys Singapore Armed Forces and they didn’t.

The scoreline ended 5-0 and was enough to put the J-League club in first place, above Suwon on goal difference.

Shinzo Koroki scored twice and Takuya Nozawa, Mitsuo Ogasawara and teenage star Yuya Osako also got on the scoresheet.
