First-half goals from Sebastian Soria and Youssef Msakni secured Qatar champions Lekhwiya a 2-1 comeback victory over AFC Champions League play-off winners Shabab Al Arabi at Lekhwiya Sports Stadium on Tuesday.
Edgar’s early opener had put UAE Pro League side Shabab Al Arabi, who beat Iran’s Sabaye Qom on penalties earlier this month to earn a place in the group stage for a second consecutive season, on course to spoil Lekhwiya’s night at their new home.
But after Qatar international Soria pulled Lekhwiya level, a free-kick from Tunisia forward Msakni 12 minutes …

Following a tight first half in the Group B opener at Pakhtakor Stadium, the game burst into life just after the hour mark as Pakhtakor goalkeeper Alexander Lobanov saved Yahia Al Shehri’s penalty.
And with 18 minutes remaining, Al Subaiei failed to hold Vladimir Kozak’s long range free-kick and Abdukholiqov took full advantage with a predatory finish less than 60 after being introduced by Pakhtakor coach Murod Ismailov.
With neither side able to establish a foothold in the game, Igor Sergeev had the first real chance of note midway through a tight …

The Pakhtakor striker struck four minutes before half-time at the Grand Hamad Stadium following some calamitous defending by Ahmed Dad to give the Uzbek side their second consecutive win, which sent them up to second in Group B.
The visitors were reduced to 10 men with …

Sherzod Karimov’s fortuitous early goal at the Jar Stadium was cancelled out when Leonardo Pisculichi capitalised on a defensive error to level the score late in the first half.

Pakhtakor 1-1 Baniyas
First timers, Baniyas maintained their unbeaten record in the tournament as they fought back from a goal down to draw 1-1 with Pakhtakor in Group B of the 2012 Asian Champions League.
Dilshod Sharofetdinov scored the opening goal in the first half but Mohamed Fawzi fired in the equaliser for Baniyas on the hour mark to give the United Arab Emirates side a share of the points on a very cold night in Iran.
Whilst the snow had been cleared, the pitch conditions where still quite poor and played a …

Substitute Goran Jerkovic scored in stoppage time as Iranian giants Esteghlal followed up their back-to-back play-offs wins with a dramatic 1-0 victory over Qatar’s Al Rayyan at the Ahmed bin Ali Stadium in the AFC Champions League on Tuesday.
With 80 minutes already played and no goals scored, the match appeared to be headed for a goalless draw. However a wonder substitution, bringing French striker Jerkovic on for Milad Midavoodi changed the game and the scoreline almost instantly. The game ended 0 – 1, giving …
