Grand Final winners Central Coast Mariners became only the third A-League side to reach the last 16 of the AFC Champions League despite suffering a 3-0 defeat by Group H winners Kashiwa Reysol on Tuesday.
Masato Kudo opened the scoring for the Japanese Emperor’s Cup winners, who had already secured their place in the knockout stage as group winners, just before the hour mark with Brazilian duo Cleo (Cléverson Gabriel Córdova) and Leandro Domingues (Leandro Domingues Barbosa) sealing the win in the closing stages.
But with Guizhou Renhe only managing a 2-2 …

ubstitute Li Kai struck five minutes from time to secure a 1-1 draw for Guizhou Renhe against Kashiwa Reysol on Tuesday, but the result was not enough to prevent the Emperor’s Cup holders from securing top spot in Group H with one game remaining in the Group Stage of the 2013 AFC Champions League.
Tatsuya Masushima gave Reysol the lead five minutes into the second half before Li levelled in the 85th minute, leaving Guizhou still in contention for a place in the Round of 16 ahead of next week’s meeting …

Two goals in two minutes late in the game secured Guizhou Renhe their first-ever AFC Champions League victory with a 2-1 win over Central Coast Mariners on Tuesday that keeps the Chinese Super League side’s slim hopes of progressing from Group H alive.
Mitchell Duke gave the Mariners the lead from the penalty spot two minutes from the end of the first half but goals from Zlatan Muslimovic and substitute Qu Bo in the final six minutes sealed the three points for Gong Lei’s side.

Junya Tanaka, Ryoichi Kurisawa and Masato Kudo each scored twice as Japan’s Kashiwa Reysol maintained their 100% AFC Champions League record this season with a thrilling 6-2 win over Suwon Bluewings in Group H on Wednesday as the former semi-finalists were made to pay for converting just one of four second-half penalties.
Kashiwa led by only one goal at half-time courtesy of Tanaka’s 16th minute close range finish before an unbelievable second half ensued at Suwon World Cup Stadium with the visitors scoring at regular intervals while Dzenan Radoncic and Jong …

Trent Sainsbury’s first goal for Central Coast Mariners with nine minutes remaining secured the A-League outfit just a second victory in the AFC Champions League as Wednesday’s 2-1 win over China’s Guizhou Renhe kept Graham Arnold’s side firmly in the knockout phase picture in Group H.
Pedj Bojic had given the Mariners the lead in spectacular fashion just after half-time at Central Coast Stadium only for an unfortunate own goal from goalkeeper Mat Ryan to hand tournament debutants Guizhou their first goal in the AFC Champions League.
But after the Mariners posted …

Brazilian midfielder Leandro Domingues scored twice as Japanese Emperor’s Cup winners Kashiwa Reysol maintained their 100% AFC Champions League record with a 3-1 comeback win over Australia’s Central Coast Mariners in Group H on Wednesday.
Patrick Zwaanswijk’s early header had given Central Coast the ideal start at Hitachi Stadium as the A-League Premiers looked to build on their goalless draw with Suwon Bluewings two weeks ago only for Leandro Domingues (pictured) to respond for the home side midway through the first half.
And after Kenta Kano completed the turnaround for Kashiwa midway …

The Brazilian headed home from close range in the dying seconds of the first half to earn Reysol a winning start having joined the Emperor’s Cup winners on loan from the Chinese Super League champions in February.

Goalkeeper Jung Sung-ryong saved an 87th minute penalty from Central Coast Mariners’ Nick Montgomery as former semi-finalists Suwon Bluewings held on to earn goalless draw in Wednesday’s AFC Champions League Group H opener.
Jung had already kept Seo Jung-won’s Suwon in the contest at Central Coast Stadium by brilliantly denying Mariners substitute Mitchell Duke just after the hour mark.
And the Korea Republic international again came to the visitors’ rescue to deny Montgomery after Kwak Kwang-sun’s blatant handball appeared to have created the opportunity for Graham Arnold’s A-League Premiers only a second …
