Matchday 6 Roundup – Group F

Group F had already been decided before today’s play, with Kashima Antlers and Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors having already qualified for the second round. The two met today to settle who would qualify in top spot and meet Pohang Steelers in the knockout stage.

Denilson made all the difference for Luiz Felipe Scolari’s Bunyodkor, ensuring his side made it into the knockout stages.

Chinese champions Beijing Guoan progressed into the second round thanks to 2-0 victory over Kawasaki Frontale. With Korea’s Seongnam Ilhwa already winning the group, Fontale had set up a winner-takes-all clash against Guoan.

A last minute Naser Kamel winner for Al-Gharafa saw the The Cheetahs clinch top spot in Group A. Matchday 6 was a contest about who would win top spot.

Iranian side Mes Kerman have have lost all three away games this ACL season. However, their home form has been great. With Hilal already qualified as group winners, Mes seemed certain to take all three points, they would just have to hope that was enough.

Top spot was all that was left to fight for in Group G.
Suwon Bluewings 6–2 Singapore Armed Forces
Singapore took a shock lead after just five minutes, controlling brilliantly before curling a long rage shot past Lee Woon-jae. Six minutes later however, Suwon equalised through Jose Mota. They then took the lead through Lee Hyun-jin, who was first to react to a rebound. Kwak Hee-ju then headed home a set piece on the half-hour mark to make it 3-1. Adelaide United has claimed top spot in Group H despite going down 1-0 to Shandong Luneng at Hindmarsh stadium in the final group game of the Asian Champions League.
A second-half goal to Lei Wei was enough for the the Chinese Super League side to secure the win, but Sanfreece’s 4-3 win over Pohang Steelers in Japan denied the current holder the chance to secure top billing in Group H.

Match Day 5 of the AFC Champions League 2010 ended with 11 teams qualifying for the Round of 16.
With 11 taken, there are now only 5 places remaining for the one-off knockout matches on May 11 and 12. Match Day 6 is now less than 2 weeks away. Lets take a look at how the 5 remaining places might be filled.

Korea’s FC Seoul have qualified for the second round of the Asian Champions League.
The faced Gamba Osaka who had already qualified and relied upon Chinese champions Shandong Luneng to lose.
As And that is exactly what happened. FC Seol won and Shandong lost.
It wasn’t going according to plan however in the 64th minute as 17 year-old Takashi Usami put Gamba ahead.
Late goals from Dejan Damjanovic and Kim Han-yoon gave the K-League runners-up the points.

Al Ittihad secure top spot in Group C

Naif Hazazi netted a hat-trick as Al Ittihad secured top spot in Group C in emphatic style with a 7-0 demolition of Umm Salal at the Prince Abdullah Stadium.
The win ensured the Jeddah side of a home match in the last 16 against the runners-up of Group B while Umm Salal will visit the winners of Group A.

ACL Group G Wrap – Suwon & Kashima move through

Suwon Samsung Bluewings booked their place in round 2 with a 3-1 win over Singapore Armed Forces.
They now join Kashima Antlers in the top two spots in Group G.
It was far from an easy win. Bae Ki-jong headed home the opener for Suwon after just four minutes of the first half. Alexander Duric headed an equalizer with 4 minutes to go in the first half.

The Pohang Steelers took top spot in Group H following a win in Japan. Frontale went into their last match in first position but the loss to Pohand meant they finish second.
