FC Seoul boss Senol Gunes was left cursing his side’s luck after the Korea Republic team were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Shandong Luneng.

A first-half header from Park Yong-ho put Seoul ahead and the hosts went close to adding to their lead on several occasions.

Seoul were left to rue their wastefulness after 80 minutes, however, as Shandong levelled through Alejandro Cichero to remain in second place, three points ahead of the K-League team in Group F.

It was a rare foray forward for the Chinese team that spent most of the game, particularly in the second-half, repelling Seoul attacks.

The result leaves Seoul, in their first-ever AFC Champions League campaign, with their work cut out to reach the second-round but Gunes, who took Turkey to the semi-finals of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, refused to give up on their dream.

Shandong boss Ljubisa Tumbakovic was much the happier of two coaches after picking up an unlikely point to remain in the driving seat for a place in the knockout round with just two games to go.

“I think that 1-1 is not a bad result for us,” he underlined.

“Because of this result, we have a good chance to get to the next round and this it our objective. There are still two games left and we still have a lot of work to do.
