Pohang Steelers must avoid complacency
Pohang Steelers are putting their Asian Champions league semi-final first leg advantage out of their minds on Wednesday as they face Umm Salal in Qatar.
The South Koreans won 2-0 a week ago to move within 90 minutes of a place in the final.
A win, draw or single goal defeat will be enough but boss Sergio Farias wants a clean slate.
“I have talked to the players and told them to forget about the first-leg match and concentrate only on the game on Wednesday,” Farias said according to the-afc.com.
“We must not think that the first-leg result will help us and we should not underestimate our opponents.
“We have told the players that the first-leg match was like the first-half of a game and the second-half will be here. We are only one match away from making history and qualifying for the final.”
Fellow Koreans FC Seoul let a two-goal lead slip at Umm Salal in the previous round and went on to lose 3-2 and Farias is eager not to repeat that mistake.
“We have won 2-0 at home and we are now playing at Umm Salal’s home,” Farias added.
“They can also win 2-0 and then things will be even. Therefore, we must not look back at the result that we had in the first-leg.
“Umm Salal’s good run to the semi-finals reflects their strengths as they have edged several teams to get to this stage. That’s why the game will be very hard for us.”
