Mday 2 – ACL Group C

18 March 2009 No Comment

Two-time Asian Champions Al Ittihad moved three points clear at the top of Group C with an impressive 3-1 win at Umm Salal of Qatar.

That makes it two out of two for the Saudi Arabians, who had to come from behind. Ibrahim N’Diaye put the hosts ahead on the half-hour but defender Hamad Al Montashari equalised for Al Ittihad just before the break.

Renato put the visitors ahead after 56 minutes and six minutes later, Hicham Aboucherouane sealed the win for the 2004 and 2005 champions.

Iran’s Esteghlal will certainly see their 1-1 draw at home to Al Jazira of UAE as two points dropped.

After Fernando Baiano put the visitors ahead early in the game, the Tehran team dominated the Group C match.

A Hossein Kazemi equaliser was all they had to show for it on the stroke of half-time.

In the second half, Arash Borhani missed a penalty, at the second attempt after he had scored the first one, and the team missed a whole host of chances to take the points.
