Mday 3 – ACL Group B

9 April 2009 No Comment

Persepolis of Iran and Saudi Arabia’s Al Shabab are in control of Group B of the ACL and looking good for a place in round 2.

Persepolis defeated Al Gharafa of Qatar 3-1. Meyzar Zare put the Tehran giants ahead after 36 minutes from the penalty spot and there was still time in the first half for Ibrahim Toure to make it 2 – 0.

It got worse after the break as Alireza Vahedi Nikbahkt made it three. Fernandao pulled a goal back for the visitors midway through the half but it was to be no more than a consolation.

Al Shabab won by the same scoreline and ended Sharjah’s hopes of a place in the second round.

The UAE team took the lead however, thanks to Brazilian star Anderson early in the match. A Nasser Al Shamrani penalty at the 20th minute mark put the visitors back on level terms and with four minutes before half-time, Abdoh Autef put the Saudis ahead.

In the second half, Marcelo Camacho sealed the win.
