Mday 3 – ACL Group G

7 April 2009 No Comment

Saudi Arabia giants Al Hilal recorded their first win of the Asian Champions League, defeating UAE’s Al Ahli 2-1 at the King Fahd International Stadium.

The three points puts the Riyadh club on to five points from three games, two behind leaders Pakhtakor.

It wasn’t all plain sailing, however. The visitors took the lead through the Young Asian Player of the Year, Ahmed Khalil, after just 12 minutes.

The 2007 Asian Player of the Year, Yasser Al Qahtani, levelled just after the half-hour mark.

With the game heading for a draw, Al Qahtani was brought down by Mohammad Qassim in the area and Romanian star Mirel Radoi made no mistake from the spot.

In Group A’s other match, Pahktakor are looking good for the knockout stage after a 2-0 win at Saba Battery.

It was a comfortable win for the Uzbeks, although they were helped by the sending off of Mohsen Yousefi after 27 minutes.

Pakhtakor broke the deadlock ten minutes after the break through Zaynitdin Tadjiyev and soon after in-form striker Farhod Tadjiyev sealed the win.
