Singapore Armed Forces have beaten Muangthong United of Thailand 4-3 on penalties to progress to the AFC Champions League group stage for the second successive year.
Both sides canceled each other out as 120 minutes of football ended goalless, leaving penalties to determine the winner.
Muangthong defender Panupong Wongsa and SAF winger Taisuke Akiyoshi had their spot-kicks saved before Pakasit Saensook sent the final kick high over the bar to give the home side the win in dramatic and heartbreaking fashion.
SAF will play in Group G alongside 2008 ACL winners Gamba Osaka, Suwon Samsung Bluewings and Henan Jianye and Bok hailed his side for once again ensuring they will play in Asia’s premier competition.
